The Impact of Age Discrimination Legislation On the Labor Force Participation of Aged MenA Time-Series AnalysisUniversity of Chicago The 1978 Amendments to the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (PL 90-902) outlawed mandatory retirement for most categories of workers between the ages of 65 and 70. This study examines labor force participation rates of men aged 65 years and over to determine if the legislation had any discernible impact. An intervention model based on an autoregressive moving average representation of the laborforceparticipation of aged men fails to find any evidence that the amendments led to a change in their employment behavior.
